Sam Raimi instruktør på WOW biofilm

Sam Raimi bliver instruktør på biograffilmen baseret på Blizzards åndssvagt populære MMO, World of Warcraft.

"At its core, Warcraft is a fantastic, action-packed story," udtaler Raimi i en pressemeddelelse. "I am thrilled to work with such a dynamite production team to bring this project to the big screen."

Raimi har tidligere instrueret alle tre Spider-Man film. Han har også skrevet og instrueret The Evil Dead og Drag Me To Hell.

WOW-filmen får som co-producer Charles Roven, hvis tidligere arbejder omfatter 12 Monkeys, Batman Begins og The Dark Knight. Andre involveret Horde-fetichister omfatter Chris Metzen, Blizzard's kreative direktør samt tophunden hos Legendary Pictures, Thomas Tull.

"Sam’s passion for Warcraft is undeniable and we know that he will create an incredible film worthy of Blizzard’s phenomenal franchise," udtaler Tull.

Paul Sams, talsmand for Blizzard, tilføjede: "Blizzard Entertainment and Legendary Pictures have a shared vision for this film and we searched at length to find the very best director to bring that vision to life.

Hordens øverste kommandør, Thrall, her konceptrenderet i Warcraft 3. Hvorvidt Legendary Pictures til brug i WOW-filmen vil computeranimere monstre med videre, vides endnu ikke. Ellers kunne Uwe Boll let omsminkes.

"From our first conversation with Sam, we could tell he was the perfect choice. Sam knows how to simultaneously satisfy the enthusiasts and the mainstream audience that might be experiencing that content for the first time. We’re looking forward to working with him to achieve that here."

Filmen vil sjovt nok blive finansieret af Legendary Pictures og Warner Bros, og ikke Blizzard selv, på trods af at de hver måned river 1.2 mia. kroner ind i abonnementsgebyrer fra verdens WOW-spillere.

Der er på nuværende intet at afsløre om, hvem der kommer til at spille med i filmen, eller i hvor høj eller lille grad plottet følger spillets persongalleri, mytologi og Azeroths historie, men mon ikke vi får et par streetsmarte elvere og dumsmarte orcs at se? Måske lidt dværgkastning...
